Writing
In writing for a variety of organizations, from magazines to non-profits, I have acted as the conduit through which communities can share their life-changing stories with the world.
One of the greatest pleasures of my life has been writing the stories of these amazing children who have such joy in their lives despite facing the tremendous challenges of having a critical illness. Part of my duties at Make-A-Wish Georgia was to call wish families to hear their stories, and then adapt the outpouring of their hearts into written word for the wider Make-A-Wish community. It was an honor to share in the joy and sorrows that these families have faced.
Although my Public Relations studies have given me many marketable skills for life in the digital age, it is my Religion major that reflects how I understand and appreciate this beautiful world. Although the topics range from Gandhi's interpretation of ahimsa to the role of women in the Celtic church, my areas of interest are in the role of religion in Palestine, specifically concerning conflicts between the Abrahamic religions.
Using SEO best practices, I research and write lake bios, agent introductions, and press releases for Birmingham-based Lake Homes Realty. This national company simplifies the process of buying and selling your lake home by partnering with agents across the country to provide relevant information on the real estate market and things to look for in a lake home.
In my time working as a writer at Valkyrie Magazine, I have covered the STEM and Arts and Culture sections, covering topics that matter the the Berry College community: inequities in STEM fields, the struggles of people with disabilities, and how to use art as a force for change.
In the Public Relations department, Open Door Home in Rome, Ga., and my academic studies in the Communication department at Berry College, I have stretched my journalistic muscles. I researched and wrote press releases to inform the Berry community of important events and college honors. I also had the opportunity to edit my coworkers press releases before publication.
In my role as a blog post writer at Valkyrie Magazine, I have a great deal of freedom of what I choose to write about. Peruse through a selection of my posts to understand some of my passions and hobbies!
The only way to effectively share stories with your audience is to understand their background. Through researching census and poll data, government studies on social issues, and taking my own surveys, I presented my audiences and company leaders with information and issues that will hopefully inspire them to take action.
